He also conducts forensic evaluations and has provided psychiatric treatment to inmates within the South Carolina Department of Corrections. ANDREW HERLICH, DMD, MD, FAAP, FASA

Dr. Herlich is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He has held many positions in the Department including Residency Director, Vice-Chair for Faculty Development, and Special Assistant to the Chair. He is still involved in Residency Education, Selection, and Mentoring.

Dr. Herlich stepped down from the official Liaison from the ASA to AAOMS several years ago but is still very active with interdisciplinary relations. He recently assumed the mantle of Committee Vice-Chair for Retired Member Engagement of the ASA as the “Silver Tsunami” approaches in health care providers. He has lectured frequently throughout the United States and Canada. He has published frequently in various publications and has also been the recipient of NIH Funding with an R-01, an R-13, and a T-32 award. Dr. Herlich’s academic and clinical interests include anesthesia for the breadth of head and neck surgery, pediatric anesthesia, anesthesia for burn surgery, and malignant hyperthermia. Despite retiring from the operating room 2 years ago, Dr. Herlich decided to give back to his “roots” by providing anesthetic care for cognitively and physically challenged dental patients at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine where he holds the position of Clinical Professor.

Finally, Dr. Herlich is most proud of his Tufts School of Dental Medicine education. He is very grateful that his family enabled his successes over the many years.
